About Sailor

In 1911, Mr. Kyugoro Sakata, an engineer from the historic seaport of Hiroshima, picked up a fountain pen brought from England by a sailor friend. Fascinated by what he held, he decided to become the one to produce exquisitely crafted writing instruments in Japan of the highest specification and writing performance. Mr. Sakata decided to establish the Sailor Pen Company with the expectation that the business would expand internationally as a sailor travels. Thus, the company became the first to start production of writing instruments in Japan and is still one of the oldest with high-quality writing products worldwide. There are many who choose a Sailor Pen over the countless other brands of writing instruments available. Our desire to “satisfy our customers” has sometimes elicited unconventional ideas and playful creativity, and has driven us to pursue further potential functions.
